Sri Lanka Tourism set to celebrate World Tourism Day 2019 tomorrow

• Two-day special program with key stakeholders from 27-29 September 
• Celebrations to be held in Colombo, Bentota and Arugam Bay

Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, in association with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), and Sri Lanka Tourism Hotel and Management Institute (SLITHM), and under the guidance of the Ministry of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, has organised a two-day special program in Colombo, and several other events, to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day.  

World Tourism Day 2019 will be celebrated on this year’s theme of “Tourism and Jobs: A better future for all”, and the official ceremony will commence at 9.30 am on 27 September at Arcade Independence Square, Colombo 07, under the patronage of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga, State Minister Ranjith Aluwihare, and other officials from Sri Lanka Tourism.  The two-day special program in Colombo includes an exhibition, job fair, food street and an entertainment program which will be opened to the public from 27th September. 

World Tourism Day was declared by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to promote sustainable, responsible, and universally accessible tourism, and is commemorated on 27 September worldwide. This year, the Global Celebrations will be in New Delhi, India. 

The highlights of the World Tourism Day 2019 program are:

• Official celebration, exhibition and job fair at the Arcade Independence Square on 27 September
• Opening of the newly refurbished Office Complex, Shopping Arcade and Sulanka Bungalow in National Holiday Resort, Bentota - the 1st Planned Resort of Sri Lanka on 27 September
• A food street and entertainment program will also take place at Arcade Independence Square on 27-28 September, from 6.00-10.30 pm
• Tourism Leaders’ Summit and International Tourism Research Conference at BMICH on 28 September by University of Colombo
• Regional World Tourism Day Celebrations in Arugam Bay on 29 September, in parallel to World Surf League (WSL) 2019
