Ayurveda has been practiced for many centuries in Sri Lanka and is known to be a traditional mixture of Sinhala medicine, Ayurveda and Siddha systems of India, Unani medicine of Greece through the Arabs, and most importantly, the Desheeya Chikitsa, (the indigenous medicine of Sri Lanka). Over the past decades Sri Lanka developed its own Ayurvedic system based on a series of prescriptions handed down from generation to generation over a period of 3,000 years. The ancient kings, who were also prominent physicians, continued its survival and longevity.
“Ayurveda” is not only a form of medication – it is a complete way of life known to generations of Sri Lankans. It is a placid and effective method of treating the root causes of illness in both mind and body.
