Victorian Era – Kandy (Prince of Wales Fountain)

The Victorian Era has its own remnants on local soil to date. This spectacular fountain built by colonial coffee planters in the 19th century was built – and shipped – to the island in a page of history that snakes back to the golden era of local coffee plantations. The fountain itself commemorates Albert Edward – the Prince of Wales – who set foot in the last royal capital in 1873. The fountain was ceremonially restored and entrusted to the Kandyan people in 2013, in an attempt to revitalize a golden footprint of ancient colonial tradition and culture in the paradise island.
