Arugambay the charming coastal area in the southeast of Sri Lanka is named after its bay, a part of Indian Ocean. The beautiful sandy beaches are popular for surfing as they are known to have the best waves for surfing in Sri Lanka. The Arugambay village paints a picture out of a book with picturesque creation of architecture with palm thatched cabanas and tree houses. The place has not seen much development but because of that one can enjoy the rustic beauty of the town which is a popular tourist destination.

A perfect city for exploring on foot with a shop around every corner. Much of the inner city can be walked without trouble, however, in parts walking include crowds, uneven streets, heavy traffic, and skinny sidewalks. If that’s a problem, there are plenty of taxi’s to ride in and scooters to rent.
History & Culture
Early History Home to years of history, which stretched far and wide. Due to the characteristic weather, the earliest explorers completely bypassed the area. The first settlement in the area was founded 1770 as a mission community. In addition to the mission, a military fort was built.
