Belihuloya, around 160km away from Colombo in the Ratnapura District is picturesque little village popular for eco-tourism. It is a beautiful hilly location which links the wet and dry zones and the hill and low country at an altitude less than 1500 meters. If you are an ardent nature lover with spirit for adventure then Belihuloya is the place for you. You can enjoy trekking across the Horton Plains mountain range and canoeing in the Samanalawewa reservoir. A number of water falls can be found in Belihuloya including Bambarakanda Ella the highest water fall in Sri Lanka.

Early History Home to years of history, which stretched far and wide. Due to the characteristic weather, the earliest explorers completely bypassed the area. The first settlement in the area was founded 1770 as a mission community. In addition to the mission, a military fort was built.
