Sri Lanka’s best and most popular venue for nature reserves and eco-tourism is Horton Plains national park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The breathtaking scenery with beautiful rolling hills with upper montane forest and wet patana grasslands is home to many endemic flora and fauna in Sri Lanka. There are several attractions at Horton Plains like the Baker’s fall, Chimmini pool and the famous World’s end an escarpment with a 3700 feet sheer drop with a fantastic view of tea estates below and on clear mornings one can see all the way up to the southern coastline.
Spread across a large area, this destination is nothing if not diverse. Choosing a single place to focus your time, that is a true challenge. A perfect city for exploring on foot with a shop around every corner. Much of the inner city can be walked without trouble, however, in parts walking include crowds, uneven streets, heavy traffic, and skinny sidewalks. If that’s a problem, there are plenty of taxi’s to ride in and scooters to rent.
