Kumana Park is situated in the eastern province of Sri Lanka
Kumana Park is situated in the eastern province of Sri Lanka, close to Hambantota and Yala National Park. It is sanctuary for birds where many birds breed and nest. Apart from Elephants who roam this park, it is also provides feeding and resting place for turtles It is also on the route of the hindu temple at Kataragama where people pilgrimage on foot every year. A 200 hectare swamp lake named ‘Kumana Villu is one the notable highlights of the park.

Early History Home to years of history, which stretched far and wide. Due to the characteristic weather, the earliest explorers completely bypassed the area. The first settlement in the area was founded 1770 as a mission community. In addition to the mission, a military fort was built.
