Lunugamwehera is one of the islands’s newly opened national parks and it is a famed natural corridor for elephants migrating from Yala National park to Udawalawa. Lunugamwehera National Park was opened to public on 1st of February 2005. The Lunugamvehera Reservoir within the park covers 3,283 ha. This can be recognized as one of the unexposed parks because of the famous Yala and Udawalawa National parks although it is rich in bio diversity. The park is a habitat for a large number of wild elephants and wild buffaloes. In addition, other species of animals such as Fishing Cat, Grey Mongoose, Bear, Wild Boar, Spotted Deer and Mouse Deer are found here.

A perfect city for exploring on foot with a shop around every corner. Much of the inner city can be walked without trouble, however, in parts walking include crowds, uneven streets, heavy traffic, and skinny sidewalks. If that’s a problem, there are plenty of taxi’s to ride in and scooters to rent.
Early History Home to years of history, which stretched far and wide. Due to the characteristic weather, the earliest explorers completely bypassed the area. The first settlement in the area was founded 1770 as a mission community. In addition to the mission, a military fort was built.
