Mannar – Madhu

Mannar district is situated on the northern part of Sri Lanka and it also has part of the largest islet in the country. Its landscape consists wooded jungles to paddy field and swaying palm trees. Mannar is dominated by Catholics and the ancient and famous Madhu Church is located here. It is believed that an ancient Kali temple was demolished to construct this Church on the same location. The Madhu feast is an annual event held in middle August attended by over half million devotees from all over Sri Lanka. This is a calendar event for most Catholics in Sri Lanka.
