Udawalawe Park is situated in the border Sabaragamuwa Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka.
Udawalawe Park is situated in the border Sabaragamuwa Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka. This park was opened to provide sanctuary to the wild animals displaced by construction of a reservoir. This is the best place to see wild elephants all through the year. Orphaned calves and adolescents are looked after until they are ready to be released to natural habitat by the ‘Udawalawe Elephant Transfer Home’ located within the Park. In addition to other animals, leopards, fishing and jungle cats could also be sighted on some days.

Early History Home to years of history, which stretched far and wide. Due to the characteristic weather, the earliest explorers completely bypassed the area. The first settlement in the area was founded 1770 as a mission community. In addition to the mission, a military fort was built.
