Udawattekele is a forest reserve on a hill in Kandy, close to the Dalada Maligawa, temple of the tooth relic.The catchment areas of this forest provides water to the Kandy Lake. Normal people were not allowed to enter this forest by the ruler of that era. However, with the fall of the kingdom, the forest deteriorated due to human invasion and thereafter, Government declared it a forest reserve sanctuary. This is the only jungle in the universe found adjoining a city.
